The Puxton Parish Council website has been created to comply with legal publication obligations and to keep residents and other interested parties informed about the activities of the Parish and the Parish Council. We realise that not everyone has internet access and so endeavour to keep in touch by more traditional methods as well.
The Civil Parish of Puxton includes the communities of Puxton Village, which lies to the south of the A370 between Bristol and Weston-Super Mare, and Hewish, which runs along both sides of the A370. We are in the Congresbury and Puxton ward of North Somerset Council, which is a Unitary Authority. The Parish Council has seven members and employs a part-time Clerk; it has no office but uses the Clerk’s home address for postal purposes and current files.
The Council does not operate a committee system: it meets in Hewish & Puxton Village Hall at 7pm as a full Council on the first Thursday of every month except August, when there is no meeting. In May, the meeting starts at 7pm and the Annual Parish Meeting follows it at 8 pm.
The Council has no bye laws, and no land holdings. It has some street furniture, and a notice board on the privately owned Village Green outside Holy Saviour Church. The Village Hall is run by a charitable trust. The burial ground at the old St Annes Church in Hewish (now domestic properties) is maintained by North Somerset Council. Holy Saviour Church in Puxton is a very ancient redundant property where occasional services are held via St Andrew’s Church in Congresbury. The Holy Saviour burial ground is still used and is under the care of St Andrews Church, with volunteers maintaining the grounds.
The Parish is small enough not to have a Parish Plan, Quality Status, or Local Charters.
